DIABETES WHEN HAPŪ

Information for hapū māmā, unborn pēpi and
newborn pēpi. Being hapū, even if not the first time, will be challenging during COVID-19.

Diabetes in pregnancy (gestational diabetes) can have a serious effect on your health and the health of your pepī.
During Alert Level 3, screening for this may be different, depending on where you live.

If you have risk factors (family history, previous diabetes in pregnancy) then talk to your midwife about the tests that can be done.

If you have any pregnancy related concerns, call your midwife, GP or obstetrics team. It might take a bit longer for them to get back to you at this time.

If you don’t have a midwife you can:

  1. Contact your local DHB maternity service

  2. Talk to your GP

  3. Try out your local listings on www.findmymidwife.co.nz

For kaupapa Māori antenatal education, email hapuwananga@waikatodhb.health.nz

They will be able to connect you with your local provider.
